International Scholars university admissions consultants and academic advisors have been helping HK students receive multiple offers from top UK and US boarding schools and universities, since 2005. Although most Hong Kong students only require advice on planning their UCAS Personal Statement, the Common Application, the Coalition Application, the Universal College Application, and supplemental essays, which are required by Stanford, Caltech, and all eight Ivy League schools; IST admission advisors and tutors offer assistance with selecting extracurricular activities, internships, summer programs, recommended readings, interview skills preparation, and test revision. Most American universities require the SAT or the ACT, and two SAT Subject Tests; while most top British universities require subject specific tests, like the LNAT for Law and the BMAT for Medicine. The UCAS application deadline is 15 October for Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science. The deadline for most other courses and universities is 15 January. In the UK, UCAS applicants may choose five universities. After receiving conditional offers, applicants may choose a ‘firm‘ and an ‘insurance‘. If applicants do not meet the conditional offer or do not receive an offer, they must undergo the ‘clearing‘ process. In the US, the binding Early Decision (ED) and non binding Early Action (EA) deadlines are in early November. The Regular Decision deadline is usually 1 January. We recommend that students begin the university and boarding school applications process at least two-years before the deadline, so that they can visit the campuses the summer before they apply; and have enough time to plan, write, and submit effective applications that will receive multiple offers.
July2018 – The Common App has announced that the Personal Essay Writing Prompts for 2018-2019 will be the same as last year, so students should begin planning their essays now.
